5 ways a writing COACH can help you
One of my favourite memories is when I was at sixth-form college and my English teacher sent off a piece of my work to the famous broadcaster and journalist Sir Trevor McDonald. I only found out about it later when, incredibly, Trevor McDonald had written a letter back telling me I had a wonderful writing career ahead of me. While it was most likely his personal assistant who had sent the letter, it was a defining moment for me Having been lucky enough to have many supportive influences in my life when it came to my writing career, I’ve learnt first-hand that having a writing coach can be instrumental in the success of writing a book. With that in mind, here are five more ways a writing coach can help.
1. A Writing Coach Can Hold You Accountable
There’s no shortage of people wanting to write a book. Some people even get to the stage where they have the idea and start writing. But unfortunately, less than 1% of people finish and go on to publish. When you’re only accountable to yourself, it’s easy to get side-tracked. A writing coach can you help you set realistic deadlines and give you the external motivation needed to meet them.
2. A Writing Coach Can Share Their Expertise
A writing coach is someone who has gone through the journey of writing and publishing their own books. They can help you flesh out your ideas, critique your work, and teach you new writing techniques all with the aim of helping you write the best book possible and increasing the chances of getting your book published.

By reviewing your work and understanding your approach to writing, a writing mentor can identify elements that could become the basis of your authorial voice.
